Week 9 Aerial Wind Turbine Update

jundongh 2015-2016, 2015-2016 Aerial Wind Turbine

We were able to make the wing frame by laser cutting the airfoil spars from plywood. The hard part was matching the dimensions of the front spar to the I-beam we made, so we had to re-dimension the design to match. Once we did that we attached all the pieces together and the wing frame was finished.

Rocket Engine Development is figuring how to collect data from load cell

cyliu1 2015-2016, 2015-2016 Rocket Engine Development

For Spring 2016, the challenge for Rocket Engine Development Stand Team was to determine how to collect the load cell data in a safe and secure manner. Together, we came up with three methods and chose the final method based on budget-efficiency and feasibility. The Stand Team had $100 to spend on both anchoring the rocket stand and wiring the …

Rocket Engine Stand Is Ready to Be Used

cyliu1 2015-2016, 2015-2016 Rocket Engine Development, Project Achievements

Manufacture Team for Rocket Engine Development has completed the rocket stand., which could withstand 1000 lb of thrust from the rocket engine’s combustion. The challenge set by the Manufacturing Team was to build the stand from the CAD model made by Stand Team in Winter 2016, and to machine the rocket. We are manufacturing the stand by cutting, welding, drilling …

Fuel Grain is made and ready to be tested for Rocket Engine Development

cyliu1 2015-2016 Rocket Engine Development, 2015-2016

During Week 7, the Flow Team for Rocket Engine Development created their final fuel grain. The labs in Engineering Tower kindly allowed the team to mix and quench the fuel grain components. After two quarters of research the Flow Team decided on a composition of Carbon Black, Aluminum Powder, HTPB, IDP(HTPB catalyst) and Paraffin wax. After hours of melting, measuring, …
