UCI Rocket Project Rockoon System Prototype 2 Fabrication Update

yuanz9 May 29, 2016 2015-2016 UCI Rocket Project

We are assembling the prototype 2. We expect to have it done by the end of week 10

UCI Rocket Project Hybrid Engine Mold is ready

yuanz9 May 29, 2016 2015-2016 UCI Rocket Project

We have finished the fabrication of the hybrid engine mold. We expect to finish the composite hybrid engine by the end of week 10

UCI Rocket Project Prototype 2 Rocket Avionics

yuanz9 May 25, 2016 2015-2016 UCI Rocket Project

This is the design of rocket flight control and recovery system. It is similar to the platform avionics, but due to the size limit, this system use CDMA (Verizon) as secondary recovery system. The platform avionics uses SPOT Trace as backup recovery system

UCI Rocket Project 2nd Rockoon Platform Avionics

yuanz9 May 25, 2016 2015-2016 UCI Rocket Project

After we lost the first avionics system, we add a solar panel and a commercial recovery system to the platform. We use battery with larger capacity.

UCI Rocket Project Rockoon System User Interface

yuanz9 May 25, 2016 2015-2016, 2015-2016 UCI Rocket Project

We have finished the major parts of the ground station user interface. The user interface can plot and store the data in real time. It can also plot the current rockoon system location in google map. The similar user interface will be used in hybrid engine static fire test

UCIRP High Altitude Balloon Avionics

yuanz9 April 21, 2016 2015-2016 UCI Rocket Project

This avionics will be used in Rockoon platform and Rocket in the future. During the test, due to the high wind speed, the system continuously output attitude warning signal, and this caused the battery die much faster than our design.

UCIRP High Altitude Balloon Test Analysis

yuanz9 April 21, 2016 2015-2016 UCI Rocket Project

We did the preliminary analysis of the high altitude balloon test. The balloon flight path matches the University of Michigan’s predictor. However, we only searched the landing zone predicted by Cambridge University.

UCIRP Hybrid Engine Injector Plate Cold Flow Test

yuanz9 April 21, 2016 2015-2016 UCI Rocket Project

We finally finish the fabrication of injector plate. Cold flow test looks good

UCIRP High Altitude Balloon Test

yuanz9 April 21, 2016 2015-2016 UCI Rocket Project

We conducted the first major test on April 17th. We lost the communication with balloon thirty minutes after launch.

UCI Rocket Project: Hybrid engine mold is ready

yuanz9 March 2, 2016 2015-2016 UCI Rocket Project

The hybrid engine mold is ready for use. We will have a fiberglass prototype of hybrid engine by the design review
