For week 6 of our project, our advisor, Professor Reinkensmeyer, held a “project status” meeting for the rehab robotics teams. In preparation for the meeting, we composed a PowerPoint presentation that included our hand drawn sketches along with the pros and cons of each design. We also briefly included the objective of our project. During the presentation, we received feedback regarding our project name, specifically what it meant, or represented. We were also told to be cautious if we were planning to execute one of our designs that involved a knee brace locking mechanism.
In addition to meeting with professor Reinkensmeyer, we also met up as a group to discuss what needed to be accomplished in order to move forward. During our meeting, we discussed the project poster that is due near the end of the quarter. We divided up the information for the project message and project details between the group members, so each group member is responsible for writing out at least one project detail for the poster. We revisited the project specifications we had previously created and altered the list, and decided how important each specification is through the use of ranked weighting system. We also discussed the current design ideas we had, and developed two new ones. Then, we decided who was going to be responsible for cadding which design. Along with our CAD designs, we will include a list of materials/components needed to create a physical model of our design, in order to create a concrete budget. In addition, we decided that, as a group, we need to make force/momentum calculations in order to obtain a clear idea of how much force it takes to hinder a person’s balance. We will also need to conduct research regarding published articles that discuss how much force is needed to hinder a person’s balance.
