Hello readers,
Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays, we are excited to be back and continue our project. A few weeks ago, we had the idea of mounting a laptop behind the flight simulator to make it self-contain and easy to transport; however, after some time and debate, we thought about the main goal of the project: “to give the user the ultimate flying experience.” So we scrapped the idea and went back to our original path. We have purchased on Amazon all the computer parts we need to be compatible with the Oculus Rift. We have also assigned tasks for everyone so that we can finish our goals as soon as possible. I will be in charge of converting the existing code that works with Ardsim.h to work with Simtools. Matt will create a real-time graph so that we have visualization when we tune the PID of the system with three potentiometers. McHenry and KC are going to work on the design of the chair and incorporate the new joy stick and pedals we just purchased. After all the task are completed, we will add a button so that the flight simulator will have a default position and install a weight sensor so different users can have a more personal experience. We would like to give UROP a shout out for awarding us $500 and we are excited to present our project at their UCI Undergraduate Research Symposium May 20, 2017. This is Ethan signing off and stay tuned for the next blog.
