Hello Everyone,
Last week, we have set up our goals in design, mechanical and fabrication parts. On tuesday, our team had a general meeting to assign the weekly tasks for each team member: Robert and Belle would work on the CAD design of motor mount and the calculate the center of gravity. Zihao, William and Zhu would focus on the wing structure and the tilting mechanism, Luyao would keep working on the CFD design and I would need to analyze the loads and bending moment for the wing.
During this week, our team has determined the lifting fan positioning: in the back of tail, and from that positioning we have sized the lifting fan. We calculated torque by multiplying the moment of inertia and the moment arm from lifting fan to central of gravity, which is determining by lifting fan positioning. Then we found the recommended lifting fan control pitch angular acceleration value, from the paper AGARD report No.577, is 0.8 rad/sec^2. We also used the book Aircraft Design by Daniel Raymer to get the value of moment of inertia. We could not find that exact value of tilt wing, so we used jet fighter value instead because jet fighter has a motor in the back, the pitching moment of inertia would be larger, which is similar to our aircraft which has a lifting fan in the back. From analysis, we would need the lifting fan to provide 1.18 lb of thrust. Knowing this parameter, we sized our lifting fan motor and propeller.
