On Sunday, October 18th, the Epsilon team held a track day in order to test Electra’s primary systems. Electra’s brakes were tested to observe weight transfer under use, and the powertrain was given a thorough workup: the motor controller current output was tested under different temperature conditions to measure for response differences while stressed, the rolling resistance of the motors was checked, and the controller response to varied gains was tested. Finally, suspension stability was tested under different driving conditions, including necessary driver intervention through straightaways and during acceleration.
Going forward, the team will take everything they’ve learned from these tests and apply them to the next electric FSAE car, Electra.
