The following list shows the available project space. The University is constantly growing and evolving so the designated spaces may change with time.
-
- The first step is to talk to your project advisor. Your project advisor might have lab space or know of other available space that is best suited for your project.
- The next step is to talk to Professor Walter (m.walter@uci.edu). It will be important for Professor Walter to know, among other things, the following:
- How large a space do you need? Do not over-estimate. Space is limited commodity at universities. If you ask for too much, there is a good chance you will receive nothing.
- What kind of work will be happening in the space?
- During which hours do you think the team will need access?
Be sure to involve your advisor in these discussions.
- Be prepared to share space with others. Be prepared to receive space that is outside of the School of Engineering.
-
- Three rooms on the 3rd floor of Engineering Tower have laboratory space available for transient project work (i.e., set-up and clean-up in the same session). Open-lab hours will be posted here. These rooms have hand tools, electronics tools, and some power tools.
- One room on the 3rd floor of Engineering Tower is available as shared project space. Project can remain on work-benches, but the overall space will be shared by up to 6 project.
There are labs that are dedicated to certain projects. They are described as follows:
- Flight Projects Lab: ECT 101
- Hours: 24/7
- Restricted to students enrolled in DBF, CubeSat, and UAV Forge
- Racecar Lab: ET 101
- Hours: 24/7
- Restricted to students enrolled in Racecar Projects
- Rules for after-hours access to adjacent Engineer Tower facilities must be followed or all use-privileges will be lost.
- SDP Lab: ET 303
- Hours: 24/7
- Restricted to projects that are approved to work in the space
- Contact Professor Walter (m.walter@uci.edu) for more information
- UCI Rocket Lab: ET 110
- Hours: 24/7
- Restricted to UCI Rocket Project
- Rules for after-hours access to adjacent Engineer Tower facilities must be followed or all use-privileges will be lost.
- For all Labs, appropriate safety and fabrication training and an approved safety supervisor on site are required.
- The labs are to be used for PROJECT SPECIFIC design and fabrication, NOT FOR class project fabrication such as MAE 106, MAE 108, MAE151, or Engineering 7A/B
