The S.P.A.M Team at the Beall Center for Art and Technology
The SPAM team gave a successful presentation of our cart during a two day exhibition at the Beall Center June 3-4. The exhibition, focused on student made inter-media art, was a fantastic venue to show the cart in a different light than had been done previously. As an art piece it evoked many interesting questions from those that came to the exhibit; questions about the material itself, about the utility within the burgeoning industry of at-home 3D printing, the maker culture itself was even discussed.
The Cart and exhibition attendees observe its operation
The prep for this exhibition included the creation of a 3D printed board game as well. The game, called “Fanatic Havoc”, was designed by Tina Chau and myself over the course of the Spring quarter. The board was hand made using acyrilic and all the game pieces were designed and printed in the SPL.
The game involved 4 players that would work together to destroy the “waste” that was continuously growing on the board. The game was won by destroying the “source” of the “waste” and was lost if every space on the board was consumed by the “waste”.
Thanks so much for reading! And tune in for new posts in August and September when the team is BACK! We have a lot of fantastic research to continue: including solving the many materials issues we encountered, improving our energy monitoring system, and more!
