With the start of Spring Quarter, the FSAE Electric Racecar team has recruited a number of new members. These new members are from a variety of majors, ranging from electrical engineering to business. We hope to train these new members over this quarter so that they can help us with this year’s car, but more importantly, these new members will develop next year’s car. Because the FSAE Electric Racecar team mostly recruits Juniors and Seniors, every year most of the team graduates and leaves UC Irvine. We try to counter this by documenting our designs and recruiting underclassmen who will stay on the team for 2-3 years.

Our documentation system works by saving every iteration of all the designs in the car. This means that bad designs and features can be avoided. Any information that is not saved in the design reports is saved by training underclassmen. These underclassmen always turn into future subteam and team leads that drive the team. With this system of documentation and training, knowledge stays with the team and helps us improve the car every year.
