On team HyperXite, we go beyond classroom learning and provide students with the skills of teamwork and manufacturing through designing, manufacturing and testing a product that has never been made before. We stretch the limits by providing students with the opportunity to communicate effectively the details of a component that does not exist yet and teach each other how each subsystem will operate together without having a physical example to reference.
Though we plan to start building the pod in January, we are staying ahead of the curve by providing students with access to the school’s external resource, Urban Workshop, for training in manufacturing and exposure the realist limitations of machining. From TIG welding, CNC Haas mill, lathe, lazer cutting and 3D printing, we plan to have our students enter the work force as a competitive prospect for engineering companies in any field.
