MPOWRD Fall Week 9: CAD of MPOWRD

lawrence.hipolito Project Achievements, 2016-2017 Manual Patient Operated Wheelchair Rehabilitation Device

This week, we took the cardboard design that we made last week and built a CAD model. Below is a picture of this model.

In the picture attached to this blog post, there are a few major components captured. First, the lever; it is attached to the inside of the wheel and curved around the wheel with a handle protruding upright at the end. Moreover, the black rectangle that is connected to the horizontal part of the lever is an arm rest for the patient to rest his or her arm comfortably. Due to the patient’s condition, it is possible that he or she cannot grip his or her hand to the handle, thus, having this arm rest would help the patient comfortably use the device. Lastly, the brake clutch near the handle will allow the patient to control the speed of the wheelchair. The brake system is like that of a bike in which two pads are positioned on each side of the wheel, where move closer to each other and place a force on the wheel as the brake clutch is engaged.

Next week, we will begin recapping the quarter to prepare for our senior design review.
