Hello friends, my name is Amihan Amargo. I am a 5th year Mechanical Engineering Major with a minor in Digital Arts. My coffee name is Amy, but I’m in the process of thinking of a new coffee name. Puzzles, making lame jokes, and playing guitar are some of the things I do for fun. Once I graduate, I hope to be either designing medical devices orrr toys! My father was a nurse and a huge amount of my relatives work in the medical field. I’ve always appreciated what they do and how hard they work but have never considered being a nurse or doctor for myself. I’d love the opportunity to improve on current medical devices to save more lives and also hopefully save patients money in the long run. The second answer is for pure fun. I’ve always and will always love toys. Toys have the capability to encourage both creative thinking and safe, positive social interactions in children (and even adults!).

Myself and a few of the other research members were apart of building Team OC’s Solar Decathlon 2015 house. I particularly assisted with the Mechanical & Power, website, and 3D printing team. It was during that project that I learned more about sustainability and energy efficiency. As a team, we wanted to explore the possible recyclability of plastic filament, even post Solar Decathlon, since so much of it goes to waste. 3D printing has been making its way into the public eye as well, so developing an efficient, sustainable workflow to up-cycle the plastic is pivotal. No better time than now to fix a foreseeable problem, especially before it is in the homes of thousands.
