Greywater Recycling Week 8 Blog

This week, the group sat down together to draw out a schematic of the filtration system. Currently, we have planned out a four-tank system, each filled with different filter media and connected to each other via PVC piping. After the fourth tank, the water will be stored in a temporary storage tank where and Arduino will evaluate how clean the water is. Clean water will be sent to the larger water cistern until it is ready to be used, while dirty water will be sent back to the beginning of the system and run through the filters again.
We also spent a fair amount of time working on our poster which is due on Tuesday the 21st. We finished most of it over the weekend but we still have a couple of corrections to make by the due date.
Seeing as it’s almost week 9, we are all currently facing the reality that we have a lot of work to do by the end of the fall quarter. Due to how busy we will be during finals week, we will need to devote a lot of time to this project in the next week or two if we want to formulate a proper bill of materials by the end of week 11. Our main task for this upcoming week is to hammer out most of these finer details – the dimensions of the tanks, the sizes of the filter media, how they will look in a user’s yard, etc.
Because of the poster due, we have many of the basic details established. But now it’s time for specifics. It’s time for actual numbers and engineering. Heading into week 9 we’re ready to embrace the challenge and work hard to be ready to order parts next quarter.
