A collaborative project with Peking University and the University of Toronto to create a global implementation strategy for autonomous vehicles worldwide.

Created by Peking University, U of T and UC Irvine were invited to collaborate on an inclusive senior design project. This project was of particular interest to PKU due to their nationwide issues with pollution, traffic congestion, and inefficiency. In November all three teams met in Beijing to present initial ideas to assembled faculty from the universities, and to explore each other’s cultures.

The purpose of this project is to create a comprehensive global implementation strategy for autonomous vehicles, the UCI team focusing on the U.S.

Goal 1: Create program that can plot the paths of 10,000+ independent vehicles through a city of our own unique design, aiming to form vehicle trains whenever two or more vehicles share a path. Path guidance will be output to the vehicles.

Goal 2: Research and write comprehensive paper on the optimal strategy for autonomous vehicle implementation including aspects such as economics, infrastructure, hardware, controls, and aerodynamics.
