Description
The goal of this research project is to create a propulsion system based on flippers as an alternative to propellers commonly used on water vessels. Our purpose is to achieve a higher efficiency than conventional propulsion by an alternative biomimetic system using flippers inspired by the evolution of aquatic animals. A biomimetic propulsion system holds the promise of fuel and energy savings, reducing maritime contribution of greenhouse gases, as well as reducing noise disturbances to marine environment for aquatic animals.
