In recent year there has been a large push towards developing Small Satellites for both Industry and Academia. A Small Satellites can operate one function of a Large Satellite, but the cost to develop, launch and operate is much lower. Currently the cheapest cost to launch on the market is $4,000/kg for a non orbiting launch. This is too high for University Project to Launch their Small Satellites. In order to reduce the cost to launch UCIRP is developing the Rockoon to make Small Satellite Launches more affordable.
The UCI Rocket Project is striving to develop a Rockoon System as a more economical ways of launching cube satellites into space and become the first University Project to reach space as defined by the Von Karmen line (100km).
Our Objectives are as follow:
Develop Rockoon
Develop Rocket to accompany Rockoon
Develop a Hybrid Rocket Engine to use on the Rocket
Launch Rockoon System and safely recover
