Musical Playground is an Android application that allows people who have experienced or are currently experiencing lack of muscle movement and coordination caused by a medium, such as a stroke, to improve and regain muscle movement through task-orientated and exploratory games produced by music.By the use of music, as a teaching exercise and a motivational tool, the patient will have constant interaction with the application. A baseline motion is defined by the therapist in terms of acceleration and the patient attempts to mimic the motion. Depending on the accuracy of the motion compared to the pre-defined path, the song will distort accordingly.
The Musical Playground project allows students to think outside the box for new ideas along with innovative and creative methods of achieving a goal. While having many aspects with coding, many of the core concepts behind the application lie heavily within the mechanical engineering spectrum. By creating an enjoyable and interactive form of therapy through the means of an app, it provides students with a unique skillset for years to come.
