X-Fade #3

ethanp 2016-2017, 2016-2017 X-Fade Flight Simulator

Hi readers,

This is Ethan with our third progress blog on the X-Fade Flight Simulator. This week, all the senior design students had an hour long mandatory safety workshop to learn to always be aware of the work place environment and follow standard procedures of the lab he or she is working in. Besides the safety workshop, we also had our first senior design review with some other project groups and the senior design project director, Terry Wang. From our presentation, we talked about our goal objective, budget, timeline, and current progress. It seems that everyone thinks we are on the right track, which is awesome. For the progress on the flight simulator, we have been successful with connecting DCS World with SimTools, but for some reason, one of the functions of SimTools is not presenting the data we want. Next week we will try to do some research and fix that small glitch. Because the current computer we have is not powerful enough to support Oculus Rift, we are still debating whether to buy an advanced gaming computer or upgrade the computer hardware. We are excited that the email I sent to UCI’s eSports organization this week has been replied and are planning to set a meeting with them next week. Hopefully after our meeting with them, we will be able to decide. Besides that, we are doing our independent research on various topics such as improving control system, upgrading the human interface, and picking the best rudder pedals.

If you have any questions, suggestions, or want to donate, please contact me at ethanp@uci.edu Thanks for reading and happy building!
