Week 4 Hardware Work

npereir1 2016-2017 Recue Robotics Challenge

This week’s meeting was based around getting a second six wheeled robot up and running. As there was already a chassis built for this second six wheeled robot, our main goals for the meeting were disassembling and rewiring the motor system to comply with the already agreed upon design and wiring in all the sensors. The sensor platform we were using for this second robot was manufactured wrong, and the holes on one side of the plate were drilled differently, which resulted in an awkward fit on the chassis of the robot. The motor controller box was also fitting a little awkward, as we just took it off of another robot to test fit. Part orders were placed in for these two parts in hopes that we can get everything to fit and stay secured through all the vibration it will go through. After jury-rigging the badly manufactured sensor platform to fit, we ran the motor wires through, hooked them up to the motor controller and tested for proper connections. With everything working we unplugged the battery and put the robot back into storage for next week’s meeting. This week we didn’t attach and troubleshoot the sensors at all- as that is planned for next week. Overall, we accomplished the goal for our meeting- in successfully configuring the second robot to conform to the design of the first.
