Week 4 – Fuel Cell Blog

This week we completed the modeling for the electrolyzer and hydrogen storage tank. Now we must model the fuel cell to determine how much electricity can be sent to the data center from the fuel cell. Once we complete the fuel cell model, we will be able to model the entire system.

Our fuel cell cooling team has completed a line drawing so that we have an overall idea of how we should put together the fuel cell coolant system. This will allow us to better understand what we want to do. Once we show this drawing to Professor Brouwer, we will order the parts from Irvine Pipe & Supply and Pep Boys. One of our members talked with a professional engineer to see if we can move his coolant system (located in ELF) to the fuel cell to test it out. He was not able to allow us to borrow this system, so we must ensure our system is correct before ordering parts.

One of our members is also writing up a test plan so that we can better schedule our time and money when analyzing the fuel cell and all other integrated parts.

We want to test the solar panels that were donated to us by Sun Edison. Luckily we already have most of the parts for the testing circuitry, yet some parts must be placed on order.

We attempted to sign up for the senior design project funding which is specifically for UCI MAE projects. However, this funding is not yet ready.
