Week 3 Solar Tracking

brianjmjung

Hello everyone,

This week, the solar tracking team was able to conduct tests on better weather conditions than week 2. The goal of the experiment was to see if using individual sensors would yield more accurate results when using both sensors simultaneously compared to using each sensor individually. We attached two L-brackets approximately normal to the LED to measure the shadows cast from the L-brackets to compare the two set-ups. We ran 10 runs for each setup and saw that using each sensor individually yielded more reliable results.

We are still in the process of thinking of how we can protect our sensors using enclosures and we are currently comparing two design ideas.

As for hardware, we have ordered steel plates for our final prototype build and we will need to machine them next week.

Also, we will conduct power gain experiments to compare power generation for single and dual axes setups.

Thank you and hope you all have a great weekend.
