I have been working on the preliminary poster while my team has been working on the CAD of our 2 design concepts. With the help of our advisor the poster has been changed quite a bit from my first version. Brennan and myself are working on the Cube Creator while Ian and Maria are working on the Smart Soldier. Brennan has been working on the CAD and Ian found a file online that we could use for the Smart Soldier. One of the problems I see with using the toy figure we got online is that it would be difficult to 3D print, we will have to either simplify the design or make a simpler figure. However, our main focus in the soldier concept is to get the accelerometer to read accurately in Unity, so how the actual soldier looks might be a menial thing to fret over. I’d like to go through some more versions of the Cube Creator before we print it. We are also in the process of seeing how we want the potentiometers to turn with the six knobs of the cube. The plan is that there will be a separate 3DP pieces that attach to the potentiometer that will then attach to the knob, this way it hopefully makes a more secure, stable connection with the knob instead of directly attaching the knob to the potentiometer.

The above paragraph was written a few days ago, but I’d like to update this blog a little more since the website did not allow us to upload blogs on Sunday. Our project needs a shift in focus as we’ve just learned. For example, we have been working on the CAD models of our concepts, but the main point of this project is to make sure that the data can be successfully transferred to a screen and can be interpreted in a visual way. This is just one example, but it is critical and my team and I hope to address it before the quarter is over.
