Greywater Recycling Week 6 Blog

During week 6, we got several administrative tasks completed. For starters, we filled out all the categories of our team website. This forced us to finish many parts of our detailed Project Specifications and Project Definition forms that we had been working on. We are making more progress on detailing the specifics of our design. Secondly, we completed our team safety plan, which includes all the hazardous/dangerous tools we will be working with and what steps we can take to ensure that we handle things safely.
Additionally, we all did some preliminary research on our specific areas of the design. One of our members researched some sensors that can be connected to an Arduino, which we may use to monitor different qualities of the water such as pH level. Another member looked into more filtration options, noticing that charcoal is frequently used as a filtering medium. Another member looked into the various types of pumps we could use to push water around through our system, as well as materials and prices for a cistern. Another team member began thinking about the physical tunnel we will have the water passing through throughout the system (pipes or hoses?).
Our meeting with Dr. Walter was very helpful and got us thinking about the things we need to figure out before our poster presentation later this month. We need to piece together a finalized design, which will require a lot more thinking on our parts. There will be a lot of engineering in this design that we will need to consider. With a few weeks left in the quarter, we have our work cut out for us.
