Rescue Robotics Week 8

npereir1 2016-2017 Rescue Robotics Ground Team

This week’s meeting had us catching up over the breaks we took for midterms and holidays. The main focus of this meeting was securing the component box that holds the IOIO and Motor Controller to the third six-wheeled robot. We had new equipment after a PO came in, and with the use of the clamps and safety equipment we got we were able to be much more precise, and safe, when it came to the drilling of the wire and mounting holes in the container. Instead of a pricey abs-plastic box, we used Tupperware- as it is a lot cheaper, can be easily removed, and provides us with more space to work in. After the Tupperware was mounted, we wired up all the sonars to the IOIO. We still have some splicing to do, however that is only necessary for the optional rear facing sonar sensor. As for work on the Rover 5, we had some hang-ups with the OEM parts provided in the boxes, as they were imprecise and didn’t fit the robot chassis as intended. Because of this, we had to delay the building of the two other Rover 5 robots until next week. We also met with some EE students on Tuesday morning who were working on a short range autonomous robot swarm as a project- and we traded ideas and contact information. This new connection will come in handy, as we are a small team and it will be nice to have more people to bounce ideas between.
