Redesigning Ground Station Software

Admin Uncategorized

The software team has been working on redesigning the ground station application and adding functionality as needed to take the application from a prototype to a polished product stage. The students are working on the design of the buttons and the layout of the application adding some functionality that allows the user to customize the ground station layout according to their preferences. We are working on adding animation and custom graphics to the application. The GUI team is also working on adding graphical representations of the data collected and stored from previous missions to the mission recap page. New functionalities have been added to the ground station on the backend side. While receiving information from the quadcopter on a mission, the application displays an icon on the map that tracks the quadcopter. The backend team is additionally working on cleaning up the code and adding documentation. The database design has been improved upon by making it more general, it now has a new field that records times during mission execution, and we are continuing to integrate it with the ground station. We are planning on implementing a database for multiple users. We are also planning to make a server from old computers and have it host the database of the ground station which will be linked to our application. The networking team has been working on testing the embedded chat program that allows us to send and receive information in json strings to and from the UAV.
