Planck’s Law

One issue we faced with our data analysis was that our program was picking up the background data and including that in the analysis. We are only interested in the pixels of the charcoal or wood that is burning. Our new program can get rid of the background data and examine only the pixels of interest.

The camera has certain levels of sensitivity at different wavelengths and we need to calibrate for that. Right now, we are getting a curved graph but need to figure out how to make that curve linear by applying some function. We are discussing using a blackbody source to get that linear intensity curve.

Lately, we have found that we have enough data to take step back from physical experiments to have a better understanding of the data we already have. We’re looking at theories and formulas to apply our data. Right now, we’re looking at Planck’s Law, shown in the picture. We are trying to find the many constants in the multicolor pyrometry equation. We are trying to find eta, which is the efficiency of the detector or camera.
