Mechanical Aid for Traction on Ice Week 8 Update

zejianc 2016-2017 Project X-Ice Traction, Project Learning

The update from this week is a summary from previous weeks. We are getting to the final step of our prototype. Last week we had a presentation and it went well. This gave us more confidence on our design concept and we will work harder on improving the prototype. An optimal design for the mechanical system has been reviewed by adviser and every team member. The graph shows the basic structure of the design. The next step we are going to take is to buy material that helps us to build the design. The first prototype is going to be 3D printed and the other component such as spring will be ordering online.
For the new design concept, during disengaged mode, the traction plate is inside the cover box while springs attach to it are in tension. For the engaged mode, after extension and torsion springs are released by click on the button on two sides, traction plate slides down and turns 90 degrees to the bottom of the footwear. We will try our best to improve the design once we can test the physical prototype.
