Greywater Recycling Week 4

Every senior design project has to start somewhere, and during week 4, we four members of the Greywater Recycling Project met together for the first time and started discussing details.
We had briefly met as a group with Dr. Walter during week 3 to get a basic understanding of our project and what we will be aiming for over the next three quarters. The first thing we did this week was meet once again, just the four of us, to establish some short-term objectives. Ultimately, this week’s tasks served the purpose of making us more organized and preparing us for the rest of the quarter. For example, we made a Google Drive space, chose Slack as our communication tool, and did some preliminary research on various topics related to our project such as natural water filtration systems, pumps, Irvine water quality regulations, and qualities of greywater.
We met once again this week with Dr. Walter, and he gave us a detailed explanation of what it means to establish an objective versus a goal. We spent the rest of the week beginning to think about our objectives – that is, short-term tasks that have scheduled due dates – for our project, as well as the longer-term goals we have for each quarter as well as the school year as a whole. Finally, we began preparing our presentation for the week 5 peer review.
We are all excited to get started on this project and reach our fall quarter goal: to draft the “final” schematics for our system concept, so that come winter, we can begin creating a prototype.
